A Journey of Providence, Kinship, Scholarship, and Kingdom Service
There are lives that leave footprints upon the sands of time, and there are lives that, by the grace of God, become enduring landmarks for generations. The life of Bishop Francis Wale Oke belongs to the latter. As he celebrates his seventieth birthday, I count it a profound privilege to honour a man whose remarkable journey I have observed, admired, and cherished for more than five decades—as a kinsman, a contemporary, a fellow engineering student, and a distinguished servant of the Most High God.
Our relationship did not begin in a university classroom or even within the fellowship of believers. It reaches much farther back into the quiet corridors of family history. We are connected through our maternal ancestral lineage, traceable to Idi-Osan Village in Egbeda Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State. That shared heritage reminds us that God often writes His purposes across generations, weaving together families, destinies, and callings long before they unfold in history.
Divine providence brought us together at Wesley College, Ibadan, where we were contemporaries during formative years that shaped our minds, refined our character, and awakened aspirations that would blossom into lifelong vocations of service. Beyond academic excellence, Wesley College moulded us through its timeless motto, "Bí ?ni tí ? ?e ìrán???"—As one who serves. Those words instilled humility, discipline, diligence, and a commitment to selfless service. Looking back over the decades, it is evident that Bishop Francis Wale Oke has lived that motto with uncommon faithfulness, dedicating his life wholly to the service of Christ and His Church.
Bishop Wale Oke and his circle of friends—all of whom were a year my juniors at Wesley College, including Oba Oyesola Oyerinde, of Erunmu—fondly nicknamed me "Oloolu." The name was inspired by my trademark clean-shaven head, which they jokingly said resembled the famous Oloolu masquerade of Ibadan. In those days, I was firmly convinced that keeping my head completely shaved allowed fresh air to "enter the brain," thereby sharpening the mind and improving memory! My friends never let me forget that amusing theory. They would teasingly attribute my outstanding performance in Mathematics and Physics not only to diligent study but also to my distinctive "Oloolu" hairstyle, insisting that it was the secret behind my academic success. Looking back today, those light-hearted moments remain cherished memories of our youthful camaraderie, laughter, and enduring friendship—bonds that have stood the test of time and continue to enrich our lives many decades later.
Our journey continued at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos, where we pursued our professional education concurrently. While Francis Adebowale Oke studied Engineering Surveying and Geodesy, I read Civil and Environmental Engineering. We shared the same Faculty, the same rigorous academic environment, and the same formative ideals. There we were inspired by the University's enduring motto, "In Deed and in Truth," which challenged us to unite knowledge with character, conviction with integrity, and learning with faithful service.
Bishop Wale Oke carried those ideals into Christian ministry, proclaiming the truth of God's Word with unwavering conviction and living it with remarkable consistency. Looking back after five decades, one cannot help but marvel at the wisdom of God. The Faculty of Engineering prepared him to measure the earth with precision, while Heaven was simultaneously preparing him to measure eternity by the compass of God's Word. Such are the beautiful paradoxes of Divine Providence.
Through the Sword of the Spirit Ministries, which Bishop Francis Wale Oke founded shortly after completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), I have had the privilege of witnessing—and personally benefiting from—his extraordinary spiritual pilgrimage. I have watched with gratitude as he has grown from a devoted believer to a respected pastor, from a faithful expositor of Scripture to a globally respected apostolic voice whose ministry has transformed countless lives across nations and generations. His life bears eloquent testimony that greatness in the Kingdom of God is measured not by prominence but by faithfulness; not by applause but by obedience; not by position but by sacrificial service.
For me, this is more than an observation—it is a deeply personal testimony. In 1989, during one of the most challenging seasons of my professional life, I sought Bishop Wale Oke's spiritual counsel. Through his wise, prayerful, and compassionate ministry, God brought clarity, healing, and renewed direction to my life. That encounter became a defining turning point. It deepened my walk with Christ and transformed my understanding of vocation, leading me to embrace a life of wholehearted commitment to serving God and humanity. For that enduring spiritual investment, and for the countless lives he has similarly influenced, I remain profoundly grateful.
His unwavering commitment to prayer, holiness, biblical exposition, evangelism, discipleship, missions, and the unity of the Body of Christ has established him as one of the foremost Christian leaders of our generation. While many admire his eloquence, visionary leadership, and spiritual authority, those privileged to know him personally appreciate even more his humility, integrity, compassion, consistency, and quiet dependence upon God. These enduring virtues form the unseen foundation upon which his visible ministry has been built. Throughout the decades, Bishop Francis Wale Oke has shown that lasting influence is rooted in character and that enduring leadership is sustained by humility. His ministry has strengthened churches, mentored leaders, championed global missions, and continually pointed men and women to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Though his voice has echoed across continents, its message has remained steadfastly centred on the Cross.
As an engineer, I understand that even the finest structures of concrete, steel, and glass eventually succumb to time and the forces of nature. Yet experience has taught me that the greatest structures are not physical but spiritual. Bishop Francis Wale Oke has spent his life building an enduring legacy founded upon unwavering faith, steadfast obedience, uncompromising truth, fervent prayer, and unconditional love—a legacy whose sure foundation is Jesus Christ Himself, and which neither time nor circumstance can erode.
Now, at seventy, he stands as a living testimony to the faithfulness of God, beautifully echoing the words of the Apostle Paul: "By the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:10. Indeed, grace has not merely sustained him; grace has distinguished him.
My Dear Bishop and Spiritual mentor, as you celebrate this remarkable milestone, my prayer is that the God whom you have served so faithfully will continue to uphold you with His righteous right hand. May He renew your strength like the eagle's, enlarge your influence without diminishing your humility, increase your wisdom, grant you robust health and abiding joy, and anoint you afresh for even greater Kingdom exploits. May your latter years surpass the former in fruitfulness. May generations yet unborn continue to draw inspiration from your life and ministry. May your voice never lose its prophetic clarity, your passion never diminish, and your legacy continue to illuminate the Church, bless our nation, and advance the Kingdom of God until our Lord Jesus Christ returns in glory.
Happy Seventieth Birthday, dear Bishop.
May the Lord crown your years with His goodness, surround you continually with His favour, and establish the work of your hands for generations to come.
Congratulations, beloved kinsman, esteemed contemporary, cherished friend, and faithful servant of Christ.
Ad multos annos. Soli Deo Gloria.
Bí ?ni tí ? ?e ìrán???.
In Deed and in Truth.

"A Tribute to Bishop Wale Oke at 70
Bishop Wale Oke is a great man of God, completely sold out to the Lord Jesus Christ. He is an evangelist with an unwavering passion for winning souls and advancing the Kingdom of God.
His love for the work of God is evident in the sacrifices he has made over many decades for the sake of the Gospel. Through his faithful ministry, countless lives have been transformed, and many have come to know Christ.
I was privileged to work with Bishop Wale Oke as far back as 1987 when he invited me to Lagos to lead worship at Aláàgò Méjì in the Yaba area. That was the beginning of a relationship that I have always cherished. He subsequently invited me every year to lead worship during the Holy Ghost Convention in Ibadan, opportunities that greatly enriched my ministry.
In 1993, he organized a nationwide ministry tour that brought the renowned worship leader and songwriter Graham Kendrick to Nigeria, and I had the privilege of joining that tour as one of the worship leaders. It remains one of the memorable experiences of my ministry.
Bishop Wale Oke is not only a gifted preacher and evangelist but also an exceptional leader within the Body of Christ. He is kind-hearted, generous, loving, and a faithful teacher of God’s Word, bringing deep biblical insight with clarity and conviction. His humility, integrity, and unwavering commitment to Christ continue to inspire ministers and believers across generations.
As you celebrate your 70th birthday, my wife, Yemi, and I thank God for your life, your family, and your remarkable ministry. We pray that the Lord will continue to strengthen you, enlarge your influence, grant you renewed health and wisdom, and crown your years ahead with even greater fruitfulness. May He continue to use you mightily to lead multitudes to Christ and to equip His Church for the work of the Kingdom.
Happy 70th Birthday, Bishop Wale Oke!
With love, honor, and heartfelt prayers,

"Daddy, on this historic and glorious occasion of your 70th birthday, my heart overflows with profound gratitude to God for the gift of your life, your mantle, and your immense grace.
They call you the National President of PFN, a global voice, and an apostle of revival but to me, you are the loving father who reached out when the nights were dark and the road was uncertain.
Thank You for Believing in Me
I want to use this milestone to say a massive, public thank you, Daddy. I remember the seasons when things were not adding up, when the pressures of life and ministry seemed overwhelming. Where others might have looked away, you did not give up on me.
Instead, you stepped in with the heart of a true shepherd. You spoke words of faith into my spirit, you extended unwavering encouragement, and you lifted my hands when they were heavy.
The Gift of Access and Mentorship
Daddy, the rare privilege of having access to you and enjoying your direct tutoring has been the defining anchor of my ministerial journey. Your wisdom has shaped my perspective, your discipline has refined my character, and your grace has paved the way for my lifting.
"A father is not just one who gives birth, but one who stays to build, nurture, and sustain."
You have been that and so much more to me. To be honest, Daddy, I simply do not know how to thank you enough. Words feel entirely inadequate to measure the depth of my appreciation for your investment in my life and calling.
My Prayer for You at 70
As you enter this platinum jubilee season, my family and I pray that the Lord opens a completely new chapter of unprecedented glory for you:
May your physical strength be renewed like that of the eagle.
May the anointing upon your head remain fresh, breaking new grounds globally.
May you live long to see the maximum rewards of your decades of labor in God’s vineyard.
Happy 70th Birthday, Daddy! I love you, I honor you, and I am eternally grateful to be your son.
With deepest love and filial reverence,
Pastor Isaac Laoye"
